BCD campaigns for amending Healthcare Code
The activists of the Belarusian Christian Democracy Party have addressed the Council of Ministers, Healthcare Ministry and the House of Representatives with over 2,000 signatures under a petition calling to amend the current Healthcare Code.
The campaign was launched after the Healthcare Ministry called upon ordinary citizens to join the discussion of the new version of the Law. The majority of proposals submitted by the Belarusian Christian Democracy deal with abortions.
In particular, the BCD activists suggest enforcing the option for a doctor to refuse performing an abortion, expect for medical reasons, as well as the absence of an opportunity to replace the doctor. The petition also urges the governmental bodies to reduce the legal period for an abortion to 7 weeks gestation.
Similar proposals have been submitted by the Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Belarus, www.catholic.by reports.
