The letter signed by the Deputy Chairperson
of BAJ Andrei Bastunets has been sent to the Special Rapporteur on the
promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression Mr.
Frank La Rue on 2
August.
BAJ asks the Special Rapporteur Frank La Rue to give reaction to the
information, provided by our NGO and to petition to the Government of Belarus
to release Anton Surapin and to stop the criminal prosecution.
Besides, BAJ asks to issue recommendations to the
Government of Belarus to abandon the practice of criminal prosecution with the
aim to curb the freedom of expression and in relation to journalists performing
their professional duties.
