The Central Election Commission of Belarus
(CEC) refused to register an initiative group to exercise the right of
legislative initiative. This statement was made today at a CEC meeting by Mikalai Lazavik, the secretary of the Cetnral
Commission of Belarus for Elections and National Referenda, Nasha Niva
newspaper reports.
The initiative group (323 people) led by former presidential candidate Dzmitry Uss wants to propose the following amendments to legislation: to give presidential and parliamentary candidates the right to include their representatives in electoral commissions; oblige electoral commissions to show observers every ballot; give every member of district electoral commissions the right to sign voting ballots.
