Siarhei Kavalenka has not been given a meeting with his wife in Vitsebsk remand prison.

On 10 May Alena Kavalenka tried to insist on a meeting with her husband, who is kept in the remand prison of Vitsebsk, RFE/RL informs. But the woman received a denial from the regional court. Alena shared information from doctors of the psychiatry department of the hospital in Navinki about the state of health of the political prisoner Siarhei Kavalenka on the day when he arrived from Vitsebsk in early April.

“They said that he arrived in a critical condition. They did their best to improve his condition somehow, however they admit that he was transferred from them absolutely ill, with a whole bunch of problems and illness. I suspect that he is not allowed to be visited now because he announced a hunger strike again.”

“I have such a suspicion. When he was placed into this isolation ward, where he suffered from humiliating treatment earlier, where the provocative video had been filmed, I can understand him, and his possible beginning of a hunger strike.”

The cassation appeal by Siarhei Kavalenka is to be considered by Vitsebsk regional court on 18 May.
