Alena Kavalenka, her 7-month-old daughter and a number of Kavalenka’s friends were detained for holding an action of solidarity with the political prisoner. Siarhei Parsiukevich told about the detention by telephone.

Several days ago Alena Kavalenka and her children held an action of solidarity with her husband, Siarhei Kavalenka, who has been keeping a long-term hunger-strike of protest against the unlawful imprisonment.

He went on the hunger-strike on 19 December, then made a break and resumed it on 8 February. He was sentenced to 2 years and 1 month in minimum-security colony for alleged violation of the regime of personal restraint to which he had been sentenced for hanging out a white-red-white flag on the main New Year tree of Vitsebsk on 7 January 2010. As of 12 March, Mr. Kavalenka weighed 51 kilos and his body temperature was 35.2 C.
