Uladzislau Kavaliou’s mother applies to Constitutional Court
According to Liubou Kavaliova, mother of the death
convict Uladzislau Kavaliou found guilty of the terrorist act in the Minsk
metro, on 1 February she filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court, asking
to find unlawful some norms of the Belarusian criminal process legislation.
The matter is that the UN Human Rights Committee asked the Belarusian
authorities to suspend the execution of the penalty till the consideration of
the individual communication of Uladzislau’s behalf, pending at the UN.
The same day Mrs. Kavaliova also applied to the General Procuracy in connection
with the disappearance in the pre-trial prison of the KGB of the two letters of
attorney, prepared by her son and his lawyer, according to which she received
the powers to apply to international bodies. The first letter was prepared in
December 2011 and the second – in January 2012.
Liubou Kavaliova also stated that her son and his lawyer finished studying the
materials of the case and intended to prepare remarks to them.
The woman received the last letter from her son on 30 January. “It is an
optimistic letter,’ she said. Before this, she hadn’t received any letters for
more than three weeks. However, the convict explained it with the study of the
case materials.
