Hrodna journalist summonsed to KGB
The Hrodna journalist
Hrazhyna Shalkevich was summonsed to the Hrodna regional KGB department. They
wanted to pass her an official summons on Saturday evening, but she was absent
from home. At about 2 p.m. on Sunday she was visited by a police officer, who
issued her with a summons for 6 p.m. of that day. The journalist wasn’t told
why she was to come to the KGB department on a day-off, Sunday.
She refused to come to the KGB on this summons, as there were no people with
whom she could leave her small child. Then the police officer phoned to the KGB
department and the time was changed to 8.30 a.m. on Monday, 30 January.
Hrazhyna Shalkevich thinks that such interest to her person can be caused not
only by her work with the Belarusian Radio “Racyja”, but also with her presence
at meetings of activists of the oppositional Union of Poles in Belarus in
different parts of the Hrodna region.
The journalist intends to hire a lawyer in order to be able to protect her
legal rights.
