A lawyer of Statkevich and his wife have arrived in Mahilyou today to meet with the political prisoner.

They entered the building of prison No. 4 in Mahilyou at 11:20 am. Mikalai Statkevich was transferred to this prison from penal colony No. 17 in Shklou on January 14, Radio Svaboda reports.

Maryna Adamovich left the building an hour later to say Mikalai Statkevich was in a punishment cell and would remain there for ten days. Maryna Adamovich thinks he committed an offence in the Shlou penal colony and serves punishment now. Maryna does not know what his offence was.

Conditions in the prison are much stricter than in a penal colony. Statkevich can have one meeting and two parcels a year. Statkevich’s lawyer remained in the prison building. Maryna Adamovich hopes he will be able see Statkevich today.

We remind that Mikalai Statkevich stood trial in the Shklou penal colony on January 12. A judge of the court of Shklou,Vitaly Volkau, satisfied the claim of the colony authorities to transfer Mikalai Statkevich to a prison for three years as a malicious offender.

Former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich was given 6-year sentence for organizing a protest demonstration against the rigged presidential elections on December 19, 2010.
