Krychau: tax inspectors fine editor of “Volny Horad”
On 6 December Siarhei Niarouny, the editor of the
independent Krychau newspaper “Volny Horad”, was summonsed to the local tax
inspection and presented a ruling according to which he was fined 350,000
rubles for presenting incorrect information in his income and assets
declarations for 2009 and 2010.
He was accused of haven't mentioned there the wage of his wife, which was to
have been mentioned as “additional income”.
“I have just signed out of the Mahiliou region hospital, where I had a two-week
course of medical treatment, and got such a surprise from the tax inspectors,”
says Siarhei Niarouny. “I think that this fine, as well as all this
pressurization of tax inspectors on me, and the dismissal of my wife in
September, are connected to my activities as the editor of “Volny Horad”. We
publish many critical articles about officials of different levels, that's why
the authorities pressurize me with the aid of the tax inspection, in order to
decrease the critical orientation of the newspaper.”
In September 2011 the administration of Krychau lyceum #4 didn't extend the
labor contract to Niarouny's wife, Tatsiana Leibutsina, who had worked there
for ten years. Five days after her dismissal the tax inspection demanded that
Siarhei Niarouny filled assets and income declarations for 2009 and 2010.
