Slonim district executive committee has banned a picket of solidarity with imprisoned Viasna leader Ales Bialiatski, referring to the absence of authorized locations for holding such events.
The official ban received by local pro-democratic activist Ivan Sheha claims that the location mentioned in the application (the town park) contradicts the executive authorities’ decision on mass events procedures of 24 April 2002.
However, on 28 September 2011, the town authorities issued a new decision, authorizing mass events in the above-mentioned park.
