Participants of prayer for political prisoners detained on October Square

5 activists who planned to hold a prayer service for political prisoners have been detained on October Square in Minsk.

Among them are Hanna Shaputska, Nina Bahinskaya, Tatsyana Kim, Alyaksandr Makaeu, Radio Svaboda informs.

As one of the participants of the prayer Tatsyana Zyanko said, people came up to the Zero kilometer sign on October Square, but before they started the prayer, the unknown in mufti come running up to them and started to push the protesters into a bus which arrived. The people in mufti were headed by Minsk police Chief Ihar Yauseeu. They refused to present themselves and explain the reason for detention. The detained are kept in the police department of the Central district of Minsk.

Public activists and believers hold daily prayers in October Square in solidarity with political prisoners. Then participants of the rally walk the way from October Square to Independence Square and finish the prayer near the Red Church.

Recently special services’ representatives had been watching the course of the prayer like hawks. The day before the head of the police department of Tsentralny district of Minsk Radzevich came up to the participants and ordered to stop “this farce” forever. He said “people should go and watch circus at the circus, and pray in a church.” In their turn participants of the street prayer state that they are going to continue their prayer meetings.
