Judge Siarhei Bandarenka has reopened the trial of Ales Bialiatski at Minsk Maskouski District Court.
The court session started with a motion by the state prosecutor who requested for a 30-minute break to specify the new charges against Viasna leader.
10.45 The prosecutor reads out “new charges”, which appear to be the same as brought against Ales Bialiatski before – Par. 2 Art. 243 of the Criminal Code (large-scale tax evasion). The only difference is a mysterious phrase “in pursuance of earlier agreements”. The Article provides for up to seven years of imprisonment including possible forfeiture.
The defense lawyer asks for a break to study the new charges.
The trial is due to be resumed on 22 November.
