Homel: another rally banned
Members of the
Belarusian Leftist Party “Fair World” intend to hold a rally on 20 November in
order to discuss the
socio-economic situation in Homel and the country as a whole. The
head of the regional structure of the party Uladzimir Siakerka filed an
appropriate application with the Homel City Executive Committee and also
decided to conclude service agreements with the police, ambulance and public
utilities.
However, medics and police refused to conclude such agreements. In particular, the
chief physician of the ambulance hospital, Mikalai Kishka, stated that all
ambulance cars would be busy on 20 November and would be unable to keep duty at
the rally for two hours. The police stated they couldn’t conclude the agreement
as they had no ruling of the executive committee concerning the order of
concluding the agreement and payment for the services.
As a result, on 3 November Uladzimir Siarkerka addressed the executive
committee with the request to discriminate why the police refused to conclude a
service agreement with him. He believes that the authorities create artificial
obstacles to prevent the local activists from holding the action.
