UNHCHR invited to visit Belarus
MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Belarus has sent an invitation to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCHR) to visit the country, BelTA reports with reference to the UN news service.
The main committees of the 66th session of the General Assembly continue their work in the UN headquarters in New York. On 27 October the Third Committee concluded its debate on promotion and protection of human rights. Delivering her speech, Belarus’ representative Zoya Kolontai stated that there could not be any hierarchy in what concerns human rights. She called upon a balanced approach of the human rights protection bodies to the observance of every category of human rights.
Zoya Kolontai stated that the Republic of Belarus had sent an invitation to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay to visit the country. She called the move “a demonstration of Belarus’ strong commitment to constructive cooperation with international organizations in the area of human rights based on the principles of mutual respect and equal partnership”.
