Hrodna activist misses appeal period due to delay by court officials
Hrodna human rights defender Viktar Sazonau will be unable to appeal a fine imposed by the city’s Leninski District Court, after the expiry of the allowed period for appealing the verdict.
Viktar Sazonau was fined BYR 735,000 for alleged illegal production of printed materials on Ales Bialiatski’s criminal case on 10 October, and was going to appeal the verdict at a superior court. However, he received a copy of the verdict on 20 October only, after the expiry of the appeal period. The activist says the delay is deliberate.
Apart from that, the verdict does not mention the PCs seized during a search at Mr. Sazonau’s apartment.
