Mahiliou authorities double the number of riot policemen
According to anonymous information from the police,
the Mahiliou authorities intend to increase the number of riot policemen in the
city by 150 people. In 2010, the battalion of the riot police consisted of
about 200 people.
Human rights defender Uladzimir Krauchanka points that according to his
information officers of secret services were ordered to prevent the situation
that happened in Livia, Alger and Egypt. “The KGB must attentively watch the
public moods and use any means to prevent the mass disturbances which can shake
Belarus,” he said. “It means that we are quite a rich state, because the
maintenance of law-enforcement officers is quite expensive. Secondly, I would
like to say that the authorities are in the state of a panic fear and follow
the principle that it's better to take excessive security measures than
insufficient ones. Earlier there was a riot policemen per each democratic activist
in Mahiliou, now there will be two of them,” he added.
