Liavontsi Chypurnykh, deputy chairman of the Brest city branch of the
Belarusian Leftist Party “Fair World” was sentenced to 5 days of arrest for
handing out invitations to the People's Assembly which will take place on 8
October.
Chypurnykh was detained by the police in the afternoon on 3 October and guarded
to the Maskouski District Police Department of Brest. There they charged him
with violating Article 23.34 of the Code of Administrative Violations. After
this 63-year-old pensioner was left in the remand prison for the night.
On 4 October the activist was tried. Members of his party weren't given any
information about the date and place of the trial, which took place behind the
closed doors.
