Beaten and arrested activist Kastus Zhukouski broke leg
An officer of duty at the detention facility in Homel phoned human rights activist Leanid Sudalenka and said Kastus asked to pass him crutches.
“I asked what was broken and the officer said it was a leg. I asked if it was in plaster, and the officer said yes,” Sudalenka told Radio Svaboda.
Leanid Sudalenka says he has already found crutches for Zhukouski.
“I will appeal to the detention facility chief to delay serving the punishment until recovery.” Sudalenka says.
Kastus Zhukouski was detained on September 21 before the silent protest action started. Riot policemen allegedly wanted to hand in a summons to Zhukouski, but he swore and showed resistance.
Zhukouski was guarded to the Chyhunachny district police department and asked why the invitation to People’s Assembly on October 8 contains his phone number.
Then Zhukouski was guarded to the Tsentralny district police department to draw up police reports. Only five hours later he was taken to emergency hospital, then to neurosurgical department of the regional hospital and then to a detention facility.
On September 22, judge of the Tsentralny district court of Homel Maryna Domnenka punished Zhukouski with 15 days of arrest: 7 days for alleged swearing in public and 8 days for resistance to police.
