Mahiliou court turns down complaints by “silent protesters”

On 21 July, Mahiliou regional court dismissed the complaints lodged by human rights defender Barys Bukhel, journalists Ales Asiptsou, Alina Skrybunova, Hanna Ilyina and civil activist Valiantsin Labachou, European Radio for Belarus reports.
All of them were convicted of involvement in “silent protests” on 3 and 6 July and sentenced to administrative arrests. The protesters demanded to reverse the verdicts. However, the court failed to find any judicial violations.
The protesters are expected to continue appealing the sentences at superior courts.
