Andrei Pachobut is left behind bars

Journalist Andrei Pachobut, charged under two articles
of the Criminal Code – Article 368, part 1 of the Criminal Code, “defamation of
President of the Republic of Belarus”, and Article 367, part 1, “libel against
President of the Republic
of Belarus”, was visited
by his counsel, Aliaksandr Birylau.
He informed his client that the petition for changing the restraint to him was
declined by Arsen Nikolski, an investigator of the Hrodna Region Procuracy.
More than 40 addresses of people who stated the intention to become warrantors
in the case of Pachobut's release on bail were ignored as well.
Meanwhile, no investigative activities have been conducted towards Mr. Pachobut
so far, though he has been kept in custody for a month already. He even met his
birthday in jail, and had only one meeting with his wife during all this time.
The wife has filed a petition for meeting his husband one more time. Now she is
waiting for an answer.
