Mahiliou and Homel city executive committees dismissed applications for holding pickets of solidarity with political prisoners scheduled by local pro-democratic activists for 25 March.
In their ban, Mahiliou authorities argue that the city lacks a designated location for holding pickets.
Homel city executive committee banned the pickets, claiming that “the applications run counter to the provisions of Par. 1 and 2 of the committee’s decision on mass events”, as local representatives of the “Tell the Truth” civil campaign were going to arrange a series of pickets in a number of the city’s central streets. Meanwhile, Homel authorities have so far authorized only one location for pickets situated on the city’s outskirts.
