Andrei Pachobut warned by Hrodna procuracy
Andrei Pachobut, a
journalist from Hrodna, has received a warning from prosecutors for his work
for the Polish Gazeta Wyborcza
without accreditation.
The journalist got the warning on 10 March. The document says that
accreditation for Andrei Pachobut at
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus expired on 24 February 24 2009 and
has not been extended, but his articles on events in Belarus continue to appear on the
paper’s website.
Prosecutor Viktar Marozau reminds Andrei Pachobut that the Belarusian
legislation prohibits professional activities of journalists for foreign media
without an official accreditation.
Andrei Pachobut, in his turn, states that the procuracy and Belarusian MFA
violate his constitutional right to collect and spread information, so he is
not going to stop his journalistic activity.
Earlier, the Hrodna-based journalist for Gazeta Wyborcza Andrei Pachobut was arrested for 15 days for being on the Nezalezhanstsi Square in Minsk on 19 December.
