Belarusian Front Party is deprived of office
BPF received a letter from the housing economy of the
Savetski district of Minsk during the New Year holidays. The letter prescribes
the party to vacate the occupied premises due to the expiry of the rent
agreement. The housing economy also informs it will not conclude a new
agreement, allegedly due to the untimely payment of the rent during the last
three months.
However, the maximal delay in the payment of the rent during the mentioned
period was three days. At present BPF has no arrears. In addition, the party
(unlike many pro-governmental NGOs) has been deprived of the opportunity to use
the coefficient that decreases the rent for two years already. As a result, it
has to pay the rent according to the high commercial tariff.
The party considers it as an attempt of the authorities to deprive it of the
office because of the wave of solidarity with political prisoners and victims
of the dispersal of the peaceful protest action on 19 December 2010. The center
for support to victims works at the office: money are raised and parcels for
prisoners are prepared there.
