British Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Willian Hague called on the Belarusian authorities to release all the detained during the non-sanctioned action in Minsk on December 19 immediately and to start a dialogue with the Belarusian opposition. The statement was published by the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Minsk.

"British government is seriously concerned by the way the Belarusian election was conducted, as well as by the fact that Belarusian authorities reacted by excessive, and, as it is clear now, coordinated violence", — states Hague.

Hague called on the Belarusian authorities to "release all the detained upon political reasons immediately". "In particular, I call on the Belarusian authorities to inform the opposition candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu's whereabouts".

Hague insists that the Belarusian authorities should provide all the detained access to necessary medical and juridical help, and also urges President Lukashenka and his government to start dialogue with political parties, public associations and the civil society to let them fulfill their natural role in a democratic society, reports BelaPAN.
