The rector of Belarusian State University signed the order for his expulsion back on 15 October. However, the student was informed about it only on 14 December. The official reason for the expulsion is missing the university classes.

Representatives of the dean’s office refused to comment on the absence rate of other students, and refused to tell whether the expulsion of Aleh Anufryenka was politically motivated and discriminatory.

Aleh was a five-year student of the journalism faculty of Belarusian State University and received state-subsidized education. He passed his exams successfully, and was paid a scholarship.

‘I was asked by my friend, film director Yauhen Shapchyts, to act the role of grandson in Hide Your Grandma’s Passport. It was his graduation work, and I saw no wrong in helping him,’ Aleh Anufryenka said.

The former student intends to get from the university an answer why he had not been informed about expulsion in time, and he also does not rule out that he would challenge the rector’s order at court.
