Salihorsk: CIS observers met only with state officials
As we learned, the
observers of the observation mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States
Albert Druzhinin and Vasiliy Astreyko came to Salihorsk. They met with a
representative of the Salihorsk District Election Commission and visited
several election precincts in Salihorsk and the surrounding villages. They didn’t
hold any meetings with the local human rights defenders or independent observers.
’We weren’t very surprised with the fact that the CIS observers didn’t find any
time to meet with us, but we had some hopes for it, as the latest geopolitical
changes let us hope for a more serious approach of CIS representatives to the
process of the election observation. We would be glad to tell them about the preliminary
results of our work, as we did during the meeting with observers of the ODIHR
OSCE,’ said Leanid Markhotka, a long-term observer of the Belarusian Helsinki
Committee in the Salihorsk district.
