Procuracy to instigate no criminal case on Aleh Biabenin’s death
The
Minsk Region Procuracy won’t bring a criminal case on the death of the
journalist Aleh Biabenin. This information was given to the information agency BelaPAN by the senior assisting
prosecutor of the Minsk
region Tatsiana Kalinkina.
The check-up of the circumstances of the death has been extended two times
already. It ends on 3 December. Bear in mind that the body of Aleh Biabenin,
the founder and a journalist of the web resource www.charter97.org was found hanged in his
summer residence on 3 September. The OSCE experts who were drawn to the
verification of the circumstances of his death concluded that the results of
the autopsy and the material evidence witness that the reason of his death was
suicide by hanging.
However, this version doesn’t satisfy all interested parties. ’A criminal case shall be certainly opened on the fact of the tragic
death of our friends, and it will be investigated by the best Belarusian
criminalists. Lukashenka confessed himself that he had been implicated in that
case, like in the case of the election fraud. In an interview to Polish mass
media he stated that he knows that Biabenin’s death had a criminal nature. After
such a statement workers of the Prosecutor’s office were to interrogate the
Belarusian leader. Let God be your judge, officers of the procuracy and the
anonymous OSCE experts,’ said in an interview to charter97.org the coordinator of European Belarus civil campaign Zmitser Bandarenka.
