A new criminal case can be instigated against the civil activist Siarhei Kavalenka for evasion from serving the three-year deferred sentence.

The activist was detained at 9 p.m. on 8 July near his house in Vitsebsk, allegedly for violation the regime of the deferred sentence, according to which he was to be at the apartment at that time. He was put in the Vitsebsk pre-trial prison. There’s still no information whether he has received the official charges.

Siarhei Kavalenka was sentenced to three years of deferred imprisonment for having hanged out a white-red-white flag on the main New Year Tree of Vitsebsk on 7 January 2010. This penalty provides a number of restrictions, including restriction on stay outside one’s apartment in the night time.

It’s already the third detention of Mr. Kavelenka after the conviction. Before this, he had been detained on 25 June and 3 July.
