’Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections’: 31.9% of democratic activists weren’t registered as candidates for the elections
The experts of the Human Rights Defenders for Free Elections campaign made a more precise calculation of the percentage of the representatives of the democratic opposition who weren’t registered as candidates for the local Councils of Deputies of the 26th Convocation.
What concerns the numbers concerning the nomination and registration of opposition candidates:
147 candidates were nominated by the Belarusian Party of Leftists Fair World, 99 of them were registered. The Belarusian Christian Democracy: 173 nominees – 82 registered; the Belarusian Popular Front: 72 -62; the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada: 2 – 2; the Belarusian Green Party: 5 – 0; the United Civil Party: 97 – 77, the For Freedom movement: 83 – 65.
Thus, if we sum up the number of the democratic candidates who were nominated by parties or collection of electors’ signatures, we received 611 nominees, 195 of whom were denied registration, which is 31.9% of the total number.
