Brest region: non-alternative elections everywhere but Brest

The elections for the local Councils of Deputies will be non-alternative in the Brest region, as there are almost no independent and opposition candidates competing with the pro-governmental ones anywhere except for Brest.

Alternative candidates are running only in 6 out of 16 districts of the region. In particular, there is 1 candidate in the Biaroza district (election constituency #5), 2 – in the Kobryn district (election constituencies #39 and #40), 1 – in the Luninets district (election constituency #42), 1 – in the Malaryta district (election constituency #46), 2 – in the Pinsk district (election constituencies #47 and #51) and 1 – in the Stolin district (election constituency #58).

There are no alternative candidates in rural areas and district towns.

13 out of the 60 constituencies for the election to the Brest regional Council of Deputies are situated in Brest. Opposition candidates are running at 10 out of these 13 constituencies, including 9 members of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party Hramada and 1 member of the Belarusian Popular Front Party. There are no alternative candidates in the remaining 3 constituencies and only heads of state enterprises are run there.
