Astravets: end of elections

The elections to Astravets district Council of Deputies seem to be over. How can one speak of elections, if there is only one candidate at each of the 25 election constituencies!

Bear in mind that the local constituency commission refused to register candidacies of four members of the United Civil Party. As a result, the elections to Astravets district Council of Deputies turned into non-alternative. Most of the candidates are managers of enterprises and heads of state organs, Chairpersons of agricultural cooperatives, schoolmasters. There’s also the head of a department of the border guard.

Independent observers also note that the present candidates are generally younger than deputies of Astravets Council of the previous convocation.
