BPF member fired over run in election

Mrs. Tatsiana Balabanskaya, member of the Belarusian Popular Front, who is running for Maladechna Council, was fired by her employer at Maladechna forestry enterprise.

According to Yan Lahvinovich, head of the BPF Maladechna office, Mrs. Balabanskaya was fired the following day after she applied for registration as a candidate on 15 March. She was phoned by her enterprise’s personnel department and informed that she was no longer an employee at Maladechna forestry.

Mr. Lahvinovich says the dismissal is caused by the activist’s running in the local council election.
