The former change results from the decrease of the number of village soviets and election constituencies compared to the previous elections to the local Soviets. According to Liudmila Makaranka, Chairperson of the organization and personnel work department of the Mahiliou oblast executive committee, a total of 3099 deputies are to be elected at the upcoming elections.

Besides, L.Makaranka pointed that 201 territorial election commissions had been established in Mahiliou oblast by 29 January: 1 oblast commission, 21 district commissions, 2 city commissions in the cities of oblast subordination, 3 settlement and 183 village commissions.

In Mahiliou, representatives of the Belarusian Popular Front party, the United Civil Party and the Belarusian Left Party Just World haven’t been included to territorial election commissions.

It has been stated Ryhor Kostuseu, the Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front party who attended the session at which the territorial commissions were formed.

‘A representative of the BPF party Piotr Mihurski was not included in the commission because of allegations of disorganizing election process during the 2008 parliamentary elections. In 2008 Piotr Mihurski was a member of Shklou election commission and tried to disclose a serious fact of electoral fraud in the election process – two blank protocols submitted to the commission of the higher level.

Representatives of the UCP and Just World haven’t been enrolled to commissions, however Belarya Rus (pro-governmental ‘state NGO’), the Communist Party and the Liberal Democratic Party representatives were invited,’ Ryhor Kostuseu said.
