The Ministry of Information refused to register “Mahilouski Chas” newspaper. As website European Belarus reports, documents for registration were filed on 10 September. Editor-in-chief Hanna Illina called to the ministry and was told that the newspaper hadn’t been registered and the notice about this had been sent a week ago.
To a question about the reasons for the refusal, officer of the Ministry of Information Viktar Huretski said: ‘How can a person without higher education publish a newspaper. It’s impossible...’
The reason, for which the newspaper was refused registration, is not on the list of the grounds for refusal mentioned in the Law on Mass Media, but it’s difficult to tell the formal reasons for the refusal before seeing the ministry’s answer. According to Illina, she will apply for registration again.
