Detention on the Ukrainian border

Activists of the Belarusian opposition may face problems at the border crossing point Makrany in Malaryta district on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.

As Alexander Taustyka, one of the leaders of the entrepreneurs’ movement, told to RFE/RL, Belarusian border guards and customs officers especially carefully search a bus driving to Ukraine.

‘They are checking all participants of the Young Politicians’ School. For example, KGB officers seized a laptop, CDs, and literature from Yury Istomin, head of the Hrodna organization of the United Civil Party. They are checking the personal belongings of other people, too,’ Mr. Taustyka said.
