Minsk: actions in support of Alexander Barazenka continue
Everyday at 7 p.m. young people gather near the doors of the remand prison in Valadarski street to express their solidarity with the political prisoner.
Yesterday activists of the civil campaign European Belarus and Young Front were standing with portraits of Barazenka. They were going round in circles and chanting ‘Freedom to Barazenka!’, ‘Freedom to political prisoners!’ Several participants with portraits marched to the KGB building. Nobody was detained.
As we have informed, the activist of the civil campaign European Belarus Alexander Barazenka was arrested on 27 October right in the building of the Investigative Committee of Preliminary Investigation of the city police department of Minsk city executive committee, where he had been called in for questioning. The oppositionist is one of the figures of the Process of 14, a criminal case, instigated on article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus against participants of a peaceful rally of entrepreneurs, held in Minsk on 10 January 2008. It is remarkable that he was arrested just after the European Union lifted sanctions against high-ranking Belarusian officials.
The trial over the activist is to take place on 8 December. Young people plan to continue rallies until Alexander would be released.
