Minsk: action of solidarity with political prisoner Barazenka
An action of solidarity with political prisoner Alexander Barazenka was traditionally held near the prison in Valadarski Street of Minsk yesterday.
Activists of the Young Front and European Belarus formed a human chain near the detention facility holding portraits of the political prisoner and posters ‘You Must Be with Us’ in their hands.
The action of solidarity was attended by leaders of the Young Front – Zmitser Dashkevich, Anastasiya Palazhanka, and Zmitser Khvedaruk, website mfront.net reports.
The police watched the event but didn’t detain anybody.
Young activists come to the detention facility, where Alexander Barazenka is kept, carrying portraits of the political prisoner every day at 7.00 p.m. During the actions, they spread printing materials containing information about him.
Activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Alexander Barazenka was arrested on 27 October in the Investigative Committee of Preliminary Investigation of the city police department of Minsk city executive committee, where he had been called in for questioning. The oppositionist is one of the figures of the Process of 14, a criminal case, instigated on article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus against participants of a peaceful rally of entrepreneurs, held in Minsk on 10 January 2008. It is remarkable that he was arrested just after the European Union lifted sanctions on high ranking Belarusian officials.
