The Central electoral commission did not grant the complaint of Alexander Halkevich against non-registration as a candidate for deputy at Baranavichy-Eastern electoral constituency #6. The Central electoral commission confirmed the conclusion of the constituency electoral commission, which had allegedly found 69 invalid signatures among those which had been passed by Halkevich’s initiative group.

Ambulance medic Valkevich, a member of the Party of Communists Belarusian and the Union of Belarusian writers, disagrees with such decision. ‘I personally collected one third of these signatures. The rest were collected by members of my party. We have checked all signature lists and there cannot be any invalid signatures. The constituency electoral commission refused to provide to me for familiarization the signatures which were found ‘invalid’,’ he says. Mr. Valkevich is sure that the reason for the refusal is that there are no invalid signatures in the signature lists. That’s why he prepares a suit to the Supreme Court against the decisions of the constituency electoral commission and the Central electoral commission.
