Orsha: numbers witness absence of equality

In Orhsa election observers analyzed the frequency of mentioning of candidates to the Chamber of Representatives by the local press. They chose for it two newspapers: a state one, Arshanskaya Hazeta, and a private one, Telecom Express.

They received the following numbers: since the elections were declared the surname of the official candidate at Orsha town constituency #27 Uladzimir Adashkevich was mentioned 11 times, while the surnames of his rival, candidate of the United democratic forces Hanna Leuchankava was mentioned only once.

The surname of head of the Belarusian railway, candidate at Orsha Dniaprouskaya constituency #26 Uladzimir Zherel was mentioned 16 times, whereas the name of his rival, representative of the opposition Uladzimir Yurzhyts – only twice. The surnames of the oppositional candidates were mentioned only in the official information about registration of candidates and their initiative groups. At the same time, large articles are dedicated to the candidates who are supported by the authorities. Often there are also large photos of these candidates.
