Tsentralny district court of Minsk found the activist of the European Belarus civil campaign Palina Kuryianovich guilty of ‘petty hooliganism’. The police detained her because she had a EU flag in her bag.

It should be reminded that the girl was detained on 3 July at about 8.00 p.m. in the Minsk center by unknown people in civvies. They said they were police officers and searched Palina’s personal belongings. Some EU flags were found in her bag. The activist of the European Belarus was guarded to Tsentralny district police department and then to the jail in Akrestin Street.

As RFE/RL reports, judge Tatsiana Pauliuchuk found her guilty of ‘using foul language’ and sentenced her to 5 days of arrest. The judge refused to hear witnesses for the defense and based her judgement on the testimony of a policeman.

It should be added that police officers didn’t give any information about Palina’s whereabouts. The time of the trial and the accusation article were kept in secret.
