Andrei Tsianuta, activist of the Young Front movement, was detained on March 20 in Homel. The police stopped him in front of his house.
He is said to have been accused of beating up a policeman and taken to the local police department. It is still unknown if he will be tried or not, and what the charges against him are. In case he is prosecuted, Andrei promises to start a hunger-strike.
It is obvious that the provocation was a well-planned action by the Belarusian police and is aimed at preventing youth activists from taking part in the upcoming March 25 event. The Young Front says it is quite possible that such preventive detentions will continue.
