Hrodna road police caught human rights defender Viktar Sazonau
In the morning of January 26th officers of Hrodna road police stopped the car of the local human rights defender Viktar Sazonau. Possibly, the police officers were waiting for a long time in the backyard for the car to start moving. However, they were interested not in the technical condition of the car: they were trying to find a reason to detain Sazonau, who is also head of the local organization of the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada, and Siarhei Malchyk, head of Hrodna regional organization of BPF Party. Malchyk was riding in Sazonau’s car as a passenger.
The activists were heading to Svislach, to participate in the regional meeting of the United Democratic Forces, planned for that day. Examining the car, the officers found printed materials without publisher’s information. That was the reason for sending the car to Leninski district police department. The police drew up reports of confiscation of the printed materials, and released the activists.
