Center Supolnasts, registered by the Ministry of Justice as Minsk city public association, faces liquidation. The liquidation trial is appointed on Friday, 13 July.

Siarhei Matskevich, the chair of the organization’s council, received from Minsk city court a copy of the liquidation suit, filed by Minsk city justice department. According to the chair of the justice department Mikalai Zialionka, who signed the suit, the organization didn’t answer to letters and warnings, for a long time ‘maintained actions connected to activity in unregistered public organization – the Assembly of non-governmental organizations’ and had among its members a person who had no residence registration in Minsk.

Siarhei Matskevich believes that the real reason for the liquidation suit is not the absence of answers to the letters which the organization had not received, but the order for liquidation of all democratic organization and pressurization of their activists. ‘However, we will object to liquidation of our organization’, Matskevich stated.

Supolnasts was established in 1995 with the aim to foster the development of civil society in Belarus. Among the founders there are such well-known public and political activists as Ales Bialiatski, Henadz Sahanovich and Vintsuk Viachorka. The organization has held many educational, scientific and cultural programs and also nominated observers to state elections of all levels.
