Women’s Organizations Sign Partnership Memorandum

Representatives of non-governmental organizations from 17 cities, and initiatives which do women programming, signed a memorandum about partnership. The meeting took place on June 17th in Kyiv, Ukraine. The memorandum was signed during the international conference: “Women’s Network – a Chance for Empowerment”.

The document states the decision to cooperate in the framework of the women’s network, which is a community of women who share democratic principles.“There are 38 registered women’s organizations in Belarus, there are also different initiatives. Nevertheless, the women’s movement is diversified, it lacks coordination of actions”, -- chairperson of Belarusian Women’s League Nina Stuzhynskaya told BelaPAN. In her opinion, coordinated actions of women in the sphere of social and humanitarian programs will help to “raise the women’s movement on the new level in qualityu and strengthen the influence of women in the society”. “WE are going to support each other in achieving political goals as well, in particular, during the parliamentary elections. Our activity will result in strengthening of the real influence of women on the social and political issues in the country”, Stuzhynskaya said. “The Belarusian Women’s Network will be based on the principles of voluntariness, democracy, equality, and solidarity”, Valiantsina Sviatskaya, member of Adradzennie NGO, stressed. “It is very important that socially active women make their own contribution to improve the life in Belarus. We all have to realize that participation in building a better society is the right we are guaranteed by the Constitution. We will act within the current legislation and want to force the authorities to observe the law”, Sviatskaya said.

Representatives of Belarusian Women’s League, Adradzhennie, Association of Women Lawyers (Homel), Women’s Club “Bona” (Kobryn), “Ulyana” Club (Vitebsk), and others declared their wish to cooperate.
