Prosecutor’s Office Continues to Intimidate Active Youth

In the morning of June 19, the police officers and people in civil clothes detained Yauhen Ivaniuk, Anastasia Shamarei, and Nadzeya Mantsevich. The young people were detained near their homes and taken to Minsk city prosecutor’s office.

The Human Rights Center “Viasna” found out, the young people received official warnings from the prosecutor. In particular, the warnings say, that “according to the information, obtained by Minsk regional prosecutor’s office, the young people intended to organize and take part in activities of the unregistered youth organization Belarusian Students Association, which had been shut down by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Article 193.1 of the Criminal Code provides for criminal responsibility for such activities”. According to the Law about prosecutor’s offices, their staff has the right to give official warnings about inadmissibility of such activities. Otherwise, the young people may face criminal charges. The warnings were signed by deputy prosecutor of Minsk A. Stuk.
