On 14 May Homel public activist Siarhei Siamionau filed an application to regional prosecutors’ office with a demand to bring to account officials of the city executive committee. The grounds for that was a sanction of city authorities to hold a meeting of the Belarusian National Youth Union (BRSM) against relocation of the Bronze Soldier monument from the center of Tallinn. The rally was held on 7 May near Homel school #2, BelaPAN agency was informed by Siamionau.
According to him, by such actions the city executive committee violated its own decision of 11 April #318 ‘On holding mass rallies in Homel’. In line with the document meetings could be held in only one site, near the House of Culture of the hearing-impaired Vipra.
’The city executive committee denied activists of the democratic forces a right to hold mass protests dedicated to the anniversary of Chernobyl catastrophe, even on the officially sanctioned place. And activists of the BRSM are holding meetings in any places they like: near universities, schools, at enterprises. I ask to stick to the law, I ask the city executive committee to follow its own decisions at least,’ S. Siamionau said.
