General consulate of Estonia in Minsk is closed today. As said by Consul Erik Siigur, for security reasons diplomats cannot go out of the building when pickets are held.
Today several dozens of members of the pro-governmental Belarusian National Youth Union (BRSM) again picketed the building of the general consulate. They protest against removing Soviet soldier monument in Tallinn. As said by Mr. Siigur, picketing is to continue on weekend as well.
On Saturday picketers turned aggressive, they tried to open the gates of the consulate. There were no policemen on the place of events. On the same day Mr. Siigur passed an oral protest to the Foreign Ministry of Belarus as the Belarusian side is not preserving guaranteed security.
