Human Rights Activist Uladzimir Vialichkin Detained

At 11.30 a.m. Brest police detained local human rights activist Uladzimir Vialichkin.

According to the policemen, Vialichkin drew their attention because he behaved in a suspicious way. Uladzimir Vialichkin managed to call us from Maskouski police department of Brest. He told Viasna that he had been followed from the very morning:

-- I don’t know yet what they are going to do with me. Most likely, they will draw up a report of disorderly conduct and will keep me in the detention center until Monday, said the human rights activist.

Vialichkin was detained by Maskouski district police officer Amialiashchyk.

The detention followed the yesterday’s events when the police blocked the office of Brest BPF, where the local leadership had a session.

Later Brest BPF chairperson Yuras Hubarevich and other party leaders were followed by policemen and people in civil clothes. However, yesterday they managed to arrive home safely.
