United Democrats of Mahilou Give News Conference about March 25 Events

Members of the United Democratic Forces informed the journalists of local and national independent mass media about their concern in conjunction with the legal situation in Mahilou on the eve of March 25.

At least 10 citizens were detained without any reasons and interrogated by police and KGB. Some of the activists were sentenced to arrests.

In particular, all organizers of the rally and march dedicated to the Freedom day, were summoned by police or KGB. The city authorities did not permit any celebration of the Freedom Day on the city streets. However, it seems, it was not enough, and the police and KGB began to work “to prevent any unauthorized actions”.

The actions by local law-enforcing bodies of intimidating activists and ordinary citizens are inadmissible. The organizers of the news conference state that the structures of the civic society are absolutely lawful, and the authorities violate the Constitution and other laws by persecuting their activists
