Police Refused to Investigate into Threats to Rynkevich, Kazulin’s Attorney

Press service of Alexander Kazulin reports, on March 15 Ihar Rynkevich, Kazulin’s attorney, received a statement of a Metro police department which says that, according to the carried out examination, they were not able to establish the personalities of people who had threatened him. The materials of the examination were sent to Pershamaiski police department. Head of the investigative department Dubrouski thinks that the actions of the stranger can not be characterized as a felony or misdemeanor. Lawyer Ihar Rynkevich plans to complain to prosecutor’s office about this statement. He thinks the refusal of the police department to launch criminal proceedings was illegal. He believes, the actions of the malefactor can be characterized by Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Belarus.

Since March 2006, when Ihar Rynkevich became Kazulin’s attorney, he has been detained by police, beaten and charged with a misdemeanor. The bar inflicted 2 disciplinary penalties on him which may lead to deprivation of a license of an attorney. Ihar Rynkevich thinks he is being persecuted as a defender of the former presidential candidate Alexander Kazulin.
